About Us
Starting Out, Inc. was founded by Daniel R. Goldenson, a developer of reference publications and informational websites, who has been in the publishing industry for his entire career. The development team, consisting of experienced editors and Web site designers, wanted to bring together both in print and on the web a practical guide to decision-making about life issues and skills for high school and college graduates.
Starting Out! was inspired by the information needs of Dan's two grown sons, Andy and Jeff, as they moved from high school, through college and graduate school, into careers, and then into family life. After fielding numerous questions about banking, mortgages, insurance, and investing, Dan realized that there was a real need for life management information that is not commonly taught in high school or college.
Covering 80 different basic life topics, the core edition of Starting Out! is designed to be published in many editions as well as on the web. Because of the value of coupling state-by-state career information with the life skills topics, there will be separate editions of Starting Out! for each state, as well as for the military services. The accompanying website, www.startingout.com, amplifies the life skills topics by providing career resources for every state, as well as an in-depth Career Finder covering 200 diverse occupations. Because of the broad need for financial assistance, a Federal Benefits Locator explores more than 1,000 assistance programs in education, training, health, and finance.
